Midwifery Undergraduate Program was established under the Faculty of Medical Science of Brawijaya University in academic year 2009/2010. The opening of the study program was based on the need analysis of the professional midwife. The previous national base of midwifery education was vocational education producing skilled widwife (trained labour) instead of competent professional. However, in 2009, National Health System signaled the need for human resources development in accordance to both qualitative and quantitative needs. As a response to the challenge, the Faculty of Medical Science of Brawijaya University formed a working group (POKJA) in preparation for the opening of the Midwifery Undergraduate Program.
